The church sponsors two weekday programs for young children which operate cooperatively with one another - the Preschool and Mother's Day Out, as a direct outreach project of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church's Discipleship ministry,

An outstanding church facility benefits each of the programs. Interesting, inviting, and innovative classrooms provide endless opportunities for learning and foster the young child's cognitive physical, social/emotional and spiritual development. Classes are kept small to maximize the learning experience. The spacious outdoor play area with climbing equipment, as well as the indoor gymnasium, provide excellent opportunities for play and gross motor development.

Our programs are faith-based, interracial and serve children from many ethnic backgrounds.

Program Information

The Preschool provides a creative and developmentally-appropriate learning environment for children from the ages of 10 months through 5 years. Our staff consists of well-qualified, nurturing, and supportive teachers who are experienced in teaching young children. The Preschool holds memberships and participation in the Southwest Virginia Association for Early Childhood Education, Southern Early Childhood Association, and National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Based on the belief that children learn through play and meaningful experiences, the teachers plan and prepare a wide variety of center-based learning activities for the children to investigate first-hand. Components of the curriculum include the development and reinforcement of social awareness, self-discipline, independence and safety, literature and language skills, math, science, art and creative expression, movement, and fine and gross motor strengths. In addition, a resource teacher in the area of music is integrated into the program. Spiritual growth and development is reinforced in the weekly chapel program offered to all children.

Lunch time consists of a lunch brought from home which is served and enjoyed in a group or family-style manner. During this time, the teachers strive to emphasize proper manners/etiquette, self-help skills, and independence.

The MDO and Preschool operate 5 days per week, 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m from September until May. The MDO program offers your choice of weekly schedules from 2 to 5 days.  The preschool program offers schedules of 3 or 5 days per week.
