Dear Commissioners:

On behalf of the congregation and staff of First Church – Roanoke, we look forward to welcoming you to our historic church and the beautiful Roanoke Valley April 27-28, 2018 for the 89th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of the Mid-Atlantic.

This will mark the first time an EPC presbytery meeting has been held in Roanoke, and the first time our church will have hosted the Presbytery of the Mid-Atlantic.  Upon arrival, you will notice the warmth and friendliness of our volunteers, some of whom will be lending a hand from the congregations of Galatia, New Life, Piedmont, and Woodside.

Please take a moment to scroll through our website to learn more about First Church and our rich heritage.  The Commonwealth of Virginia will be honoring us with an historical marker in May, which will attest to the significance of our mission since 1851, having planted most of the other Presbyterian churches in the Valley while preaching and teaching from the scriptures, the rich reformed tradition of our theology.

Parking

First Church property encompasses an entire city block with parking available in the church lot, and curbside throughout the neighborhood.  Since a commercial area of shops and restaurants attract customers, it would be advantageous to arrive early, particularly on Friday morning.  Attendants will be on duty to provide guidance in parking your vehicle.  Parking will be much improved for Friday evening worship, and again on Saturday morning as we will have access to a covered garage directly across the street from the church.  Please note:  if you should choose to stay at the Cambria Hotel & Suites, a free shuttle service will be provided to and from the church on Friday.

Hotels

While there are many good hotels in the area, we have chosen several for your consideration, all of which are listed here.

Restaurants

We have also listed a number of restaurants for your information with a brief description of each.  You will find them here.

Farewell Luncheon

Snacks and beverages will be available throughout the meeting, and on Saturday, following the benediction, First Church will provide a farewell barbecue on the lawn!  You are invited to linger and enjoy the barbecue, or take a carry-out box if you must get on the road.

Blessings,

Robert D. Smith, Pastor
